Gillingham head coach Ady Pennock plays down decision to change skipper as Max Ehmer replaces Josh Wright

The captain’s armband changed hands at the weekend but boss Ady Pennock isn’t making a big deal of it.

Max Ehmer took over match duties from Josh Wright, who maintains the club captain role.

Speaking about his decision to hand Ehmer the armband, Pennock said: “I like his attitude and I like the centre-half to be the captain.

“Josh has done nothing wrong, it was just a case that I do like the centre half as captain and he has impressed me.

“But it’s only an armband at the end of the day. We need eleven leaders out there.”

Speaking before the weekend, Pennock praised Wright’s role in the squad.

He said: “Josh has been fantastic. I have been leaning on him because he is club captain and he will remain so.”
