Former Gillingham assistant manager Anthony Hayes appointed under-21 manager at Crystal Palace

Gillingham’s former assistant manager Anthony Hayes has landed a new job working at a Premier League club.

Hayes was no.2 to Mark Bonner this season but left in early January, sacked after a poor run of results.

The former Charlton coach joined the Gills in the summer to work alongside Bonner and coach Pete Gill - who has remained at Priestfield.

Hayes, who worked his way up the ranks at Charlton and even had a brief spell as caretaker boss, has been appointed manager of Crystal Palace’s under-21 side.

His previous jobs also include a time as first team coach at Sunderland.

Bonner has recently taken over as director of football at League 1 Cambridge United, with another ex-Gills boss Neil Harris appointed at the Abbey Stadium as their head coach.
