Chatham Town 1 Folkestone Invicta 2 match report: Goals by Invicta captain Kevin Lokko and Ade Yusuff leave Tope Fadahunsi’s first-half effort in vain during Isthmian Premier derby

Striker Ade Yusuff claimed a goal and an assist as Folkestone maintained their unbeaten Isthmian Premier start with a derby win at Chatham on Bank Holiday Monday.

Yusuff - once of Chatham - set up captain Kevin Lokko to cancel out forward Tope Fadahunsi’s opening goal.

In the second half, 31-year-old Yusuff came up with the game’s all-important third goal as it ended 2-1 to Folkestone, who ended Chats’ unbeaten start - as Folkestone leapfrogged them in the table.

Jay Saunders’ side had created the first opportunity in the fourth minute when they put keeper Henry Molyneux under pressure from a high ball but referee Deryll David penalised the visitors.

Four minutes later, young Chats defender Alex Giles twice blocked goal-bound efforts by striker Jake Hutchinson to save Molyneux’s blushes after he had rushed out, only to be beaten to the loose ball.

But Kevin Hake’s hosts drew first blood at the Bauvill Stadium on 12 minutes.

Folkestone goalkeeper Ted Collins found himself in no man’s land and left forward Fadahunsi with the task of dinking in from around 20 yards out to find the vacant goal.

That lead lasted only nine minutes, however, as centre-back Lokko kept his cool to find the bottom corner from Yusuff’s cutback after a flowing move to score his first goal for the club.

Home right-back Ollie Evans became the first player in Mr David’s book when he was adjudged to have fouled a marauding Montel McKenzie on the half-hour mark.

The fingertips of ex-Colchester goalkeeper Collins prevented Chatham from retaking their lead. He flung himself to divert midfielder Jordy Robins’ long-range drive over the crossbar.

Invicta’s teenage Ebbsfleet loanee midfielder Maxx Manktelow was then lucky not to give away a penalty in the 38th minute.

The 19-year-old appeared to clearly take out midfielder Lewis Chambers, who had drifted into the area after his long throw was only half-cleared, although home penalty protests fell upon deaf ears.

Two minutes after the interval, Yusuff was unable to bundle in for the away team after good right-wing play by Evans and the recalled midfielder Dean Rance.

Chats’ Sam Folarin tried his luck but 22-year-old Collins got down well to gather his long-range shot.

Home boss Hake made the match’s first switch, which saw Kian Garlinge replace Robins in midfield with 55 minutes played.

But four minutes later, former Charlton and Sheffield United keeper Molyneux, 20, cheaply gave possession away from a goal kick that he had taken short and Yusuff made it 2-1 to Invicta.

The on-rushing Collins opted to head clear the danger midway through the second period as Chatham substitute Stanley Oldfield attempted to latch onto a loose ball.

With 18 minutes to play, another home substitute, defender Sid Nelson, nodded over a corner at the back post.

Chats had struggled to build any second-half momentum despite some Chambers long throws.

In the second of six minutes of injury time, they tried to put the pressure on Folkestone, as Oldfield failed to hit the target with a header, but the visitors held firm.

Invicta made four changes to their starting line-up from the 2-1 victory over St Albans on Saturday.

Defender Ben Mason, who had scored a stoppage-time winner, came into the team alongside Rance and forwards Yusuff and Hutchinson.

The home team had been unchanged from their starting line-up that saw off Aveley 2-0 on Saturday.

It’s FA Cup first qualifying round action for both sides this weekend, with Folkestone at ‘home’ to Isthmian South East Sevenoaks - at Ashford’s Homelands Stadium - while Chats host Southern League Central outfit Marlow.
