Coronavirus Kent: Rochester United offer NHS staff free access all season to their games in the Southern Counties East

Southern Counties East side Rochester United have offered NHS workers free entry to all of their games next season.

It’s been a disappointing end to the season for the Spartans - denied promotion from Division 1 after all records for 2019/20 were expunged - but they are keen to show their gratitude to the workers who are helping to end the coronavirus crisis.

Not only will the Strood-based side be allowing NHS staff into games for free all season, but they are also offering them a free matchday programme, free burger or chips and also a free tea/coffee or beer!

It’s a gesture of thanks from the Division 1 side, who ended the season that wasn’t sitting fifth in the table.

A message directed to “all football supporters” said: “In light of recent events with the FA, understandably in a difficult situation, deciding to finish the season early Rochester United would like to make a small gesture to our amazing NHS staff for the fantastic service you provide us.

“This may only be a small gesture but we hope this may help for anyone that enjoys football and would like to ome along and support the club next season.

“We cannot thank you enough for everything you do and I am sure all other clubs will echo Rochester United in these hard times we face.”

Anyone with a valid NHS identification can take advantage of the offer at Rede Court Road whenever the new season begins.

The previous one was aborted this week and all records expunged.

Rochester’s promotion rivals Kennington topped the table and their managed was one of several chasing honours who came to the same conclusion.

Premier Division Beckenham Town also missed out and their chairman has hit out at the Football Association over the lack of communication.
