Striker Conor Wilkinson leaves Gillingham for Dagenham

Gillingham forward Conor Wilkinson has left the club to sign for non-league Dagenham on a free transfer.

Wilkinson was on loan at Dagenham earlier in the season and turned down offers from Football League clubs to join the Daggers on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old was out of contract at the end of this season but has penned an 18-month deal at Dagenham.

He scored just four times in 50 appearances for Gillingham - but Wilkinson found goals much easier to come by for Dagenham.

After scoring on his debut he went on to score six times on loan earlier this season.

Wilkinson told Dagenham's website: "I did have interest from clubs in the Football League and in this league but I wanted to come back here.

"The last 11 games have really benefited me, I've found myself again, enjoying the football I have been playing and it's good to be back playing for the team."

Dagenham boss Peter Taylor added: "I am delighted Conor has signed a permanent contract with us, I think he has shown in the short period what a good player he can be.

"He has shown great commitment and ability in his loan spell here, now we are looking for him to kick on even more.

"It's positive for the Football Club and himself as Conor is being very positive in the plans the Club has ahead of itself."

Wilkinson is expected to play for Dagenham in their National League match at Maidstone on Saturday.
