The Shouting Men: Gillingham midfielder Billy Knott writes exclusively for the KM Group

It was nice to get a couple of assists on Tuesday night and we’re playing the kind of football I like to play.

I like to play in teams who pass and move and keep the ball.

At Bradford, I didn’t make that many assists but now I am taking some corners and involved in set plays and trying to slide the strikers in higher up the pitch and that is more my type of game. Hopefully, I can do that a lot more this season.

It was weird how similar both of the Southend games were.

We know that we are one of the fittest sides in this league and if we can keep the ball the way we do and stretch them, we need to just keep running all over them. It will wear teams down.

If we keep doing that, we have a good chance this season.

I had to help Dacky off the pitch on Tuesday night, after he injured his knee and hopefully he’ll be okay. He isn’t one to stress and he just felt it was a bit sore. We have had some bad injuries this season.

My brother, Sammy, plays for East Thurrock but he has done his cruciate and had his operation last week. He has got about eight to nine months recovery time now. I am trying to keep him in good spirits but I have had the same injury and know how horrible it is.

I had mine when I was about 16 at Chelsea. There isn’t much you can do for the few months after the operation but he will be all right soon.

There have been a lot of these injuries in the last few years, I don’t know why but there has definitely been an increase.

Different people suffer in different ways with cruciate injuries. Some manage to finish off a training session and just feel a bit of pain in their knee but I landed on mine and it cracked and I was in pain and that was the same for my little brother, he landed and he felt something.

When I got my injury, I think my dad was more worried than me. At the time I didn’t really know what was going on but from when he played, if you did that, your career would be over.

Nowadays things have moved on and I was back playing again within seven months.
