The Shouting Men: Gillingham midfielder Jake Hessenthaler writes exclusively for the KM Group

Everyone was frustrated after last weekend’s result.

It’s the third time now we’ve lost a 2-0 lead and we need to be stronger and more ruthless in our play because we had been in great positions.

We had a good chat afterwards, with the players and staff.

The gaffer doesn’t want to have a massive pop at us because we have played well for 70 minutes and executed the game-plan brilliantly.

In the last six we have won four, drawn one and lost one. We could have won all six.
We need to learn to be more ruthless.

We don’t want to change too much though because you can’t say we haven’t been playing well or been entertaining. We are scoring goals and it is a tricky one.

When we got to Doncaster last Saturday we were told there was a power cut and the game was being delayed and that the game would probably kick-off at 3.30pm.

Some of us just chilled out a bit but 15 minutes later it was back on for 3pm. It didn’t really change a lot to be honest, there wasn’t a lot of disruption.

Rory scored early on and it was a fantastic goal. Rory watched the flight and the technique was superb, to side-foot it in. He is a great finisher and we get to see it every day in training.

We knew they would come out firing after the break but we pressed them and the second goal was another great one.

I felt we could have another and we did have some more chances. We weren’t cruising, we weren’t taking our foot off the gas and in your head you think we can get more here.

They scored a good free-kick but from my angle I didn’t think it was a foul, Max was miles away from him, but the referee gave it.

You can’t change it. The goal goes in and then they score another to level the game.
