Thomas clinches cross country title

ANDY THOMAS, of Medway and Maidstone AC, secured his first Kent Senior Men's cross country league title.

The early leader on a tight and twisting circuit at Parkwood School, Swanley, was Pat Curran (Medway and Maidstone) but he was forced to give way to a great battle between Huw Evans (Tonbridge) and Allan Lee (Sevenoaks).

Victory went to Evans, the 2003 Kent championships silver medal winner, by just five seconds from Lee with Curran a further 10 seconds in arrears in third place.

Meanwhile, Thomas was running rather cautiously to protect a recent injury and was delighted to secure the overall title in fourth place.

Julian Rendall (Tonbridge) was almost a minute behind the leading quartet but played a vital role in leading his club to runner-up position behind Medway and Maidstone on the day and in the overall standings.

In a clean sweep of the awards Medway and Maidstone also claimed the Duodec 12 to count title for the third consecutive year, having achieved a 100 per cent perfect team score on all three occasions.
