This year’s walk takes place on Sunday, June 23, and will be marked by the inaugural Ted’s Scarecrow Challenge.

Kent schools, clubs and charities are invited to create scarecrows for a special trail that will be part of the walk.

The walk will be staged in Maidstone, and there will be a choice of 10 and five-mile routes taking walkers through the beautiful Kent countryside between the Grade II listed Georgian mansion Mote House and Leeds Castle.

Participants in the walk will vote to decide which is the best scarecrow submitted for the trail, with £150 going to the most popular.

A panel of judges will also award £100 to their favourite scarecrow.

All entries will be featured on Phil and Ted’s blog, and the winners will also appear on Kent Online.

To take part in the scarecrow challenge, schools, clubs and charities must register their interest by April 4, and scarecrows must be finished by Friday, May 17.

Charity walk coordinator Sophie Wallace said: “The KM Charity Walk is already a lovely family event and this year Ted’s Scarecrow Challenge will make it even more fun for young people.

“And there are some amazing cash prizes on offer for the schools, clubs or charities that submit the most impressive scarecrows.

“But anyone who is interested in entering the scarecrow challenge needs to register their interest within the next couple of weeks.

“For everyone else, the charity walk provides a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds for their favourite good causes, while enjoying a day out in the beautiful Kent countryside and –hopefully – glorious mid-summer weather.”

Booking is now open for the Charity Walk. Anyone can take part and raise money for their favourite good causes, with 70 per cent of sponsorship money going to the participants’ chosen charities, and the rest helping to fund the KM Charity Team’s child literacy and road safety work in Kent.

Any individual raising more than £200 will be entered into a prize draw to win two free Eurostar tickets.

The cost is £11.50 for adults, with children going free, for online bookings, and £15 otherwise. And there is a £1.50 discount when using the code KMNews19.
