Schools registering for the scheme will have the chance to win story time sessions by two Honorary Patrons of the KM Charity Team: panto star Ben Roddy and rugby legend Catherine Spencer.

Ben is resident pantomime dame at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury whose film credits include an appearance in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie. Catherine is former Captain of the England Women’s Rugby Team, whose leadership led to three successive Six Nations titles, and founder of Inspiring Women.

Active Wow schools will be eligible to join in inter-school challenges staged next academic year with the best or most improved classes winning a story time with a star. Other famous faces set to visit winning schools include CBeebies luminaries Joanna Adeyinka-Burford of the Let’s Go Club and Phil Gallagher of Mister Maker, as well as award-winning children’s author Nick Butterworth, creator of Percy the Park Keeper and Q Pootle 5.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “Pupils get a real thrill out of our walk to school challenges, which help to keep them enthused about green travel, but next year will be a particularly exciting one for Active Wow participants. We have our fantastic storyteller prizes to give away and 2018 marks the KM Group’s Year of Walking campaign. The media group will be putting green travel well and truly in the spotlight via its newspapers, KentOnline, and kmfm radio.”

Schools registering before the summer holidays will receive a 20% discount on the price and go into a prize draw to win a pair of Eurostar vouchers. Primary schools’ Sport Premium grant can be used to fund Active Wow, which uses a variety of incentives to promote walking, cycling or scootering to school, and provides self-evaluation evidence for Ofsted.
