As a seasonal gesture of thanks to its supporters and beneficiaries, the KM Charity Team ran a competition giving away a free group ticket for a return Channel crossing with ferry operator DFDS.

And the winner is an employee at one of Kent’s leading disabilities charities.

The prize is going to Alice Moir, who is the marketing manager at Deal-based Martha Trust.

Alice said she planned to take her family on a New Year trip to Calais. She added: “I’m over the moon. It’s made my day and put a smile on my face.”

Martha Trust provides lifelong care for people with profound physical and multiple learning disabilities.

Alice added that the charity and its staff and supporters had previously taken part in KM Charity Team fundraising challenge events such as the KM Assault Course, Dragon Boat Race and Big Bike Ride.

And last month – after a decade of submitting applications – it was named as the East Kent Mercury charity of the year for 2020.

Alice said: “We applied for 10 years and finally we were successful so it’s very exciting for us.

“We feel the year ahead will give great exposure to the people we support.

“They don’t have their own voice, so we are their voice for them, and we’re looking forward to working with the KM Media Group and raising the profile of people with profound disabilities.”

Booking is now open for the 2020 KM Bike Ride, which takes place on Sunday, April 26, starting and finishing at Betteshanger Park near Deal. Find out more here.
