Children using green travel to get to school will be treated to a free fun packed morning at Canterbury's Dane John Gardens on Saturday, May 17.

Buster's Big Bash is being staged by the charity department at the Kentish Gazette to reward families involved with the paper's Love Your City campaign. This is encouraging the switch from the school run to walking, cycling, scooter travel or park and stride.

This week families at participating schools were issued with a special invitation to attend the event and assemblies were staged to trumpet the successes of Love Your City since its launch on Valentine's Day.

Any family in the district that uses green travel to get to school can order their free tickets online at www.kmwalktoschool.co.uk and join in the event, but the stars of the show will be the families of the participating city centre schools.

The Love Your City event will host challenges, races and entertainment for children at Canterbury schools promoting green travel. Each child will receive a free goody bag, squash drink and fruit snack.

Children will take part in two record attempts and have a number of physical activities to take on including pedal go-karts, beat-the-goalie and circus skills workshop. Completing these will earn children a goodie bag - providing they were registered in advance on the website. Children will also receive squash and a fruit snack.

The record attempts include the biggest teddy bears picnic and an attempt to create a giant walk to school crocodile. The event starts at 10am.
