Easter trail promises chocolate rewards

School’s out for Easter and that means three things: chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.

But everybody knows that Easter eggs are best served with a healthy dose of exercise.

And thanks to the Rotary Club of Strood, this year families will be able to enjoy that combination by taking part in an Easter egg trail through the historic streets of riverside Rochester.

The trail takes place on Easter Monday (April 22), and families are urged to book now to guarantee their participation.

Children will be given eggs to decorate, and then tasked with taking mobile phone photos of them at 10 different locations in the town.

At the end of the trail, which starts and finishes by the river Medway at The Esplanade, they will be presented with chocolate eggs and certificates.

Tickets for the trail cost £5 per child, and the money raised will be used to enable Medway children to take part in the KM Charity Team’s reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club.

Paul Sutton, chairman of the Rotary Club of Strood’s fundraising committee said: “Come and join us for a charity Easter egg trail through the historic streets of riverside Rochester.

“There’ll be chocolate eggs and certificates for every child taking place.

“And the money raised will be used to promote the educational performance of children in the community by helping to fund a local primary school to take part in reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club.

“Buster’s is a great scheme with a proven track record of raising pupils’ literacy engagement and performance, and the Rotary Club of Strood is delighted to be involved with it.”

The event runs from 10am to 1pm. Book a place for your child by emailing the Rotary Club of Strood’s Hazel Sheehan at hazel_sheehan@hotmail.com.

Buster’s Book Club encourages children to read more at home. Participating schools’ classes compete internally for weekly trophies, and winners of monthly inter-school challenges are rewarded with tickets to leisure attractions or visits by celebrity storytellers.

Besides the Rotary Club of Strood, Buster’s Book Club is supported by the Ernest Cook Trust, Little Cheyne Court, the Kent Community Foundation, Golding Vision, Orbit, Specsavers, Leeds Castle, Diggerland, Hornby, Wildwood, Acorns Read and Grow, the Crown Foundation, The Education People and Kent, Medway and Bexley councils.
