Youngsters can enjoy an afternoon of spooky storytelling from Reading Fairy at Macknade Fine Foods this half term.

The early reading experts will entertain and delight children aged one to five years old on Friday, October 26. Two sessions will be staged - at 2pm and 3pm - but parents and guardians must book their free places in advance at www.ReadingFairy.com/Canterbury

But that’s not all. There will be a plethora of activities for children on The Deck from 2pm, including free face painting, apple bobbing, and a fancy-dress competition for the best-dressed child.

The activities are part of Macknade Fine Food’s latest ‘Last Friday’ event, which has plenty to offer the adults, too. There will be a bar serving seasonal drinks from MightyFineThings and dishes cooked on Macknade’s Big Green Egg all afternoon and into the evening.

Local six-piece band, Covered, will be playing a set of rock, pop and soul classics from 6pm onwards. Covered are a Canterbury-based band, who regularly gig around the local area and play a wide variety of covers including Bon Jovi, The Police, and Kings of Leon, and are guaranteed to have everyone up on their feet.

Rosie Collins, Marketing Manager at Macknade Fine Foods, said: “Our Last Friday events have been a real success and we are excited to be starting early on this occasion, with some fantastic free activities for children.

“Working closely with our friends at MightyFineThings and Reading Fairy, we’re putting on an event for all the family to enjoy from afternoon until evening.”

Macknade and Reading Fairy are key partners of the KM Charity Team, which works with schools to promote child health and wellbeing. Macknade Fine Foods is on the judging panel for the Young Cooks contest – still open to entries from youngsters aged six to 19 at www.YoungCooks.org.uk - while Reading Fairy works with the children’s charity on its Buster’s Book Club reading reward scheme www.BustersBookClub.co.uk

There is no need to book for Macknade’s Last Friday evening event of food and music. However, to guarantee a table for food in the evening, call Macknade on 01795 534497 or email cafe@macknade.com
