Green is good but multi-coloured’s better

It’s a case of green is good but multi-coloured is better at a fun family challenge event taking place next month.

The KM Colour Run takes place at Betteshanger Park near Deal on Sunday, June 9.

Participants will complete a 5km route while being covered head to toe in multicoloured powder, and can take part either for fun or to raise money for their favourite good causes.

The event is organised by the KM Charity Team, and complements the organisation’s campaigning work promoting green travel and active lifestyles with schools and families.

Thirty per cent of any sponsorship money raised will be used to fund road-safety and walk-to-school programmes with primary schools in Kent.

These programmes include Super Wow, which encourages families to walk, cycle or scooter to school on Wednesdays, and walking buses.

The rest of the sponsorship money will go to the good causes chosen by Charity Walk participants.

Event coordinator Dominic Comins said: “Getting families to lead more active lifestyles is so important to children’s well-being – both now and in the future.

“And this event is such a great way of getting people to do that: it’s all about gain with no pain but plenty of fun.

“It will also raise important funds to encourage other people to benefit from incorporating more green travel into their routines.

“So I would urge families to guarantee their participation by booking their tickets now.”

The challenge is supported by key partner Specsavers, and the entry fee is £20 for adults and £12 for children aged four to 16; children under four go free.

Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult runner, and there is a £5 discount when using the booking code KMNews19.

The price includes a limited edition KM Colour Run T-shirt, sunglasses, a small bag of coloured powder to throw over other participants, and a medal on completion.

There is also still – just – time for youngsters to enter a kmfm competition to find starters to get the Colour Run under way.

Two winners and their families will join the kmfm street team at the run’s starting line, and then man a colour station, from where they will throw coloured powder all over the runners.

To enter, children need to submit an inspirational message no more than 30 words long for those taking part in the event at the kmfm website. The competition is for under-18s and the deadline for entering is May 27.
