It’s not just the winning charities that will be celebrating at the Thanet Community Awards.

One lucky attendee of the awards ceremony will win a classic collectable courtesy of toy manufacturer Hornby.

The maker of Thomas the Tank Engine sets, Scalextric and model trains and planes has donated one of its boxed gifts for a fundraising raffle.

The awards, which are organised by Westwood Cross, London Array, the Thanet Extra and the KM Charity Team, are open to good causes, volunteer groups and individuals making a difference to the community in Thanet.

Event coordinator Karen Brinkman said: “This is such a lovely gesture by Hornby and is very much in keeping with the spirit of the awards.

“It’s great that one of Thanet’s most high-profile businesses is supporting an initiative that is all about celebrating the community in which it is based.

“The November 27 deadline is now less than two months away, but the online entry process is quick and easy to complete.

“So don’t be put off from nominating your charity or putting forward the name of a volunteer who might be too modest to nominate themselves.”

The awards are open to all good causes and volunteers making a difference to the community in Thanet.

The winners will share £10,000 in prize money. Westwood Cross, London Array and the Thanet Extra will each present a cheque to a chosen charity for £2,000, and the shopping centre and the newspaper will champion their winners over a 12-month period.

Another £4,000 will be shared among three runner-up charities and three individual volunteer winners.

Nominations for the awards can be submitted at thanetcommunityawards.co.uk. The deadline for entries is noon on November 27. The awards ceremony will take place at Broadstairs’ Yarrow Hotel in January.
