The sun shone on Sunday (June 9) for some 400 fun runners signed up to a colourful 5K which raised £10,000 for 40 charities.

Saturday’s downpours were a distant memory as the annual KM Colour Run at Betteshanger Park near Deal was bathed in sunshine.

Participants of all ages donned the event’s souvenir t-shirts and sunglasses as they walked, jogged or ran the course for fun or to raise sponsor money for their favourite cause.

And they were rewarded with medals handed out at the finish line.

The only clouds were made up of vibrant coloured powder streaming from colour cannons and thrown at colour stations manned by staff from event organiser KM Charity Team, the event’s key partner Specsavers and supporter Countrystyle Recycling.

Radio station kmfm took charge of the purple colour station cheering on participants as they approached the finish line.

The kmfm street team were joined by Mark Burton and his family from Deal who won the radio station’s contest to kick-off the KM Colour Run. They showered runners with colour at the starting line then continued the fun at the kmfm colour station.

Causes benefiting from the event included Abigail’s Footsteps, Kent Association for the Blind, Air Ambulance, Porchlight, Folkestone Mind, Dover SmArt Project, Net Community Hub, Walderslade Together, Cruse Bereavement Care, Footprints Foundation, Solve Charity for Mental Health, East Kent Mencap, Stroke Association, Samphire, Everglow, Hypo Hounds, Holding On Letting Go, Child’s Vision Charity, Reach, Eva’s Angels, Dover Life Guards Club, Patches Heart Group, The Inspiration Creative Team, Last Chance Animal Rescue, British Heart Foundation, and Sandown School in Deal.

The event’s coordinator Dominic Comins said: “We are thrilled by the turnout - hundreds of friends and families, work colleagues and charity supporters, all having the time of their lives.

“I’d like to thank our key partner Specsavers along with Countrystyle Recycling, kmfm, IMP who organised the PA and music, Karen’s Fitness and Zumba who led the warm-up, and Betteshanger Park. They all brought so much enthusiasm to the day and played a huge part in its success.”

Nicola Belson, from Specsavers Dover branch, waved the chequered flag and ran the green colour station. “We’ve had a really good time – covered more of us than we have the runners!” she said. “And it’s for a fantastic cause.”
