The annual event, staged at Maidstone Leisure Centre, attracted 28 teams and saw the Moomins take top spot by a four point margin over team Capsicums. This was a first win for Moomins in Maidstone with the team coming second in 2017 and 2015.

Each member of the team received £150 worth of DFDS Seaways vouchers and, along with the other top three teams from the event, will take on highest-placed teams from the Ashford, Canterbury and Medway heats of the KM Big Charity in the county final in January.

Heart of Kent Hospice, the Kent Messenger newspaper’s KM Charity of the Year, is one of the beneficiaries of the charity pot along with the KM Charity Team’s reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club and road safety and walk to school initiatives.

Helping to ensure the mammoth wine and wisdom evening was a success was a small army of volunteers and supportive businesses. Kent brewer Shepherd Neame donated the beverages for the charity bar and Barclays bank staff manned the bar and used its pound for pound scheme to boost the charity pot.

Extra support was provided by Office Angels and Pizza Hut Delivery while Hornby donated prizes for the raffle. Accountants Wilkins Kennedy were the headline sponsor of the event and brought teams of staff to join in the fun.

A VIP package provided by the Hazlitt Theatre was awarded as part of the Win in 10 feature on the night. The prize included four tickets to the gala opening night of its Aladdin panto plus ‘meet and greet’ with the cast, food treats from Wagamamas, and gin and tonics.

Quiz master Simon Dolby said: “The scores of teams taking part in the event were very impressive. I particularly want to thank Barclays staff, Shepherd Neame and Wilkins Kennedy for their support in helping to ensure the event was such a success.”
