And with budgets currently stripped to their bare bones, they’ve never needed more support.

The good causes set to benefit from the money raised include Kent and Canterbury Hospital’s League of Friends and child-cancer charity Eva’s Angels.

In addition, there will be a special prize awarded on the night for the top team taking part from the NHS and care sector.

But with less than three weeks now left until the quiz takes place on Friday April 26, anyone keen to enter a team will need to book a table fast.

The League of Friends will also be providing a free ploughman’s for everyone taking part. And contestants will be able to wash it down with a drink or two from the fundraising bar donated by Shepherd Neame.

Every penny raised at the bar will be match-funded by Barclays Banks.

There will also be a complimentary bottle of wine and a bottle of fizzy water on each team table.

League of Friends chair Dr Catriona Irvine said: “The League of Friends at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital has taken part in the Big Quiz for many years.

“We’ve been glad to be the food partners, with our members sourcing, preparing and setting out the food for all the teams’ tables.

“As well as enjoying a great fun night out, the League of Friends put the money raised by our members to good use buying gifts for the hospital.

“These range from chairs and tables for visitors to the latest high-tech equipment, all used for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.”

Dr Irvine, a retired consultant dermatologist who worked at the hospital for 25 years, added that the friends tried “to spend up to £200,000 a year for the benefit of patients”.

The quiz is open to teams of up to eight people, with doors opening at 6.20pm for a 7pm start. It takes place at the University of Kent's sports hall, and is estimated to finish at 10.30pm.

There will be a raffle featuring Hornby collectables, and one random lucky participant will get the chance to win two Eurostar tickets via the ‘Win in 10’ game.

The money raised will also help fund the KM Charity Team’s child-literacy and road-safety services. Another charity beneficiary will be chosen via prize draw on the night.

The entry price is £65 per eight-person team, but there is a £10 discount when using the booking code KMNEWS19.
