FULHAM footballer Jon Harley will be turning on the Christmas lights in Martin Square, Larkfield, this year. The 22-year-old defencer offered to perform the task for the Martin Square Traders' Association on condition that his fee was donated to the charity of his choice.
Steve Lewis, 42, a partner in Tapers Hairdressing in the square, said: "Jon has been coming in here to get his hair cut since he was about 14. His parents live in Allington and he comes in about every six weeks on average.
"I just mentioned in passing that we were looking for someone and he said he'd do it as long as we gave the money to the Heart of Kent Hospice in Aylesford. It's a local charity and everybody in the local area knows someone who has been in there at some point. I get the impression Jon just really feels they deserve it."
The lights will be switched on at 5pm on Friday, November 30.
