The ceremony takes place at the Yarrow Hotel in Ramsgate in January. And Yarrow head chef Ben Williams gave awards coordinator Karen Brinkman a sneak preview of the bill of fare.

Ben previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurants Reads in Faversham and the Abode in Canterbury, was named the Good Food Guide’s UK Pub Newcomer in 2009, and was a National Chef of the Year semi-finalist in 2012 and 2013.

He treated Karen to a dish of roasted chicken served with pancetta, a light jus, glazed carrots and mashed potato.

Karen said: “Ben’s cooking is divine, and all the guests at the Thanet Community Awards ceremony are in for an absolute treat. It promises to be a fantastic evening.”

The awards are open to all good causes and volunteers making a difference to the community in Thanet. They are organised by the KM Charity Team in association with Westwood Cross, London Array and the Thanet Extra.

The deadline for nominations is November 27, and the organisers are particularly keen to receive ones for volunteers.

Karen added: “We’d really love hear about volunteers – either teams or individuals – that are making a positive difference to the community in Thanet.

“It’s so important to recognise their work: no charity could function without them; and by celebrating their contribution we can help to create role models to inspire other people to follow their lead, as well as providing much-needed publicity for their good causes.”

Nominations can be submitted at thanetcommunityawards.co.uk.

Westwood Cross, London Array and the Thanet Extra will each present a cheque to a charity of their choice for £2,000, and the paper will also champion its winner – providing invaluable media support over a 12-month period.

In addition to the money for the three main award winners, another £4,000 will be shared among three runner-up charities and three individual volunteer winners.
