During this pandemic, it has been impossible for us to provide funerals as we normally would, however we are still operating and will be doing everything we can to help people through during these extremely distressing times. The guidelines drawn up by the Government in consultation with the two main funeral trade associations the NAFD and SAIF, state that in order to reduce contact, face to face meetings for the arrangement of funerals should be replaced by remote options such as phone calls, email, and Skype.  We are finding that families are adapting well to this and we are still here as much as you need us to be.

The guidelines state that funerals can take place but have to be limited to immediate family only (fewer than 10 people) with all the social distancing rules applying, meaning mourners have to be two metres apart.

As funeral directors we feel that it is perhaps now time to view the way we do funerals differently, to adapt to this new and strange situation we find ourselves in.  Until now, a funeral was two things at once - firstly laying the body to rest, either by burial or cremation. The second was the part was coming together to mourn, to celebrate the person's life, to cry, to laugh, to remember. The outbreak of this terrible virus has forced us to adapt and we feel that it is no longer safe, feasible or healing to continue these 'funerals'. We feel that if we are able to change our mindset to consider the separation of these two things, then it is still possible to 'do right by' the person, and to have a truly meaningful ceremony that will at least go some way to healing broken hearts. Also importantly, this will ensure that we keep everyone safe and prevent further deaths.

In the interest of safety, it is our advice to have an unattended cremation or video committal in the first instance, with a memorial service at a later date. However, if this is not something that you feel comfortable with, we promise to work with you to find the solution that fits your family and circumstances in the best way possible. We our offering graveside services and cremation services for small groups of immediate family members.  All funeral venues currently have restrictions in place such as social distancing, no touching of the coffin, and reduced numbers of mourners. Please get in touch with us and we will discuss all the options and our creative ideas with you to find a way to bring you some comfort in these dark times.

Because of these restrictions and their impact on the services we can offer you, we have lowered our prices to help ease the financial burden on families. Examples of some of the solutions we can offer are as follows:

Unattended Cremation

£1,700 - Includes all our fees, completion of all paperwork, cremation fee (unattended), standard coffin, provision of ashes in a scatter tube.

We can assist you in finding a ritual that suits your family and circumstances perhaps at home, in your garden or in a 'virtual' capacity. We have lots of creative ideas and can work with you to help you and your family through these first moments of grief until you can organise a fitting memorial in a safer and more inclusive environment. We can put you in touch with a celebrant or religious minister to help you make a start on building a service in the meantime and we can deliver ashes back to you immediately following the cremation.  We can also arrange for them to be returned in a casket or urn if you prefer.  We have a selection of urns and caskets on our products page which we will endeavour to source for you, costing between £100-£150 on average.

Cremation service attended by immediate family members only - at 9.00 or 9.30 am

£2,950 - Includes all our fees, completion of all paperwork, cremation fee (attended), standard coffin, provision of ashes in a scatter tube and Minister/Celebrant fee.

The reason we are offering these early times only for cremation services is that they are the first of the day, after the chapel has been fully cleaned from the services of the day before and thus provides the safest environment possible.  With over hundred people passing through the chapels in any one day, we feel this is the only way to keep our clients and staff safe.

Small graveside burial service

From £3,500 - Includes our fees, Minister/Celebrant fees, completion of all paperwork, standard coffin, burial and gravedigging fees. Limited to immediate family members only.

Video Service from our premises – webcast via top quality video conferencing facilities to up to 100 people

£2,700 - Includes all our fees, completion of all paperwork, cremation fee (unattended), standard coffin, provision of ashes in a scatter tube, Minister/Celebrant fee, video conferencing facilities.

If you have any questions about coronavirus/COVID-19 and funerals, or any advice or guidance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us - we are here to help 24/7.
