Rochester Riverside's sought-after location tempted London family to move to Medway

A regeneration housing development on the banks of the River Medway tempted one man to make the move with his family to Kent.

Calin Dragut, 52, and his family had been living in a rented two-bedroom house in south London when a friend invited them over to see the new home he had bought at Rochester Riverside.

The new Countryside and Hyde development and its sought-after Rochester location a stone’s throw from the station, swept the family off their feet.

Calin said: “Everything at Rochester Riverside seemed to be in the right place, and it instantly felt like home, even though we weren’t looking to buy at the time. We went on a walk around the town and immediately fell in love with the high street, dotted with small independent shops, and the views over the castle and the cathedral.”

Its riverside location also reminded Calin of his native Romania, where he had grown up near the River Danube.

A week later, he was on his way back to find out more about the regeneration scheme and the homes it had to offer - and discovered a handful of three-bedroom houses were still available.

Coming from a construction background, Calin was impressed by the quality of finishes and the level of product knowledge demonstrated by the Countryside staff. After the follow-up visit, he decided to buy his first home there – a three-bedroom Shelduch house – without having viewed anything else.

The property, available with Help to Buy, also impressed them with its clever layout and generous space as well as the local amenities. These include a recently opened Co-op supermarket, Travelodge and Costa Coffee.
