THE cross-Channel ferry service between Dover and Zeebrugge is to be scrapped at the end of the year, but it has been announced that jobs are safe.

P&O Stena Line revealed its decision following two months of consultation with representatives of employees, trades unions and works councils on both sides of the Channel.

The company says the closure will not result in any redundancies because the ships currently being used on that route will be switched to the Dover-Calais service.
