New pub and café bar creates 30 jobs

A LARGE building which has stood empty in Dover for 20 years is all set to become a public house and café bar in a £1 million development that will create about 30 jobs.

Members of the district council's planning committee has approved an application to change the former indoor market building in Bench Street to The Litten Tree.

Richard Raper, on behalf of the applicants SFI Group, told the committee that SFI were "really going to go to town" with the development. He said: "It will be air conditioned, with double glazing and a double door. There may be music inside, but you won't hear anything outside.

"There will be 12 CCTV cameras operating inside and outside, with 24-hour surveillance. It will bring life into this declining area and to this building which has been vacant for more than 20 years."
