Red hot response to brigade's recruitment drive

A RECRUITMENT campaign to find new firefighters for Kent has seen a big response. Record numbers of enquiries to the Kent Fire Brigade's website has encouraged senior bosses.

They say it proves firefighting is seen as a popular, worthwhile and rewarding career. The campaign is aimed at attracting men and women from all backgrounds. Alex Dunnet, responsible for training and recruitment said: "People might just be surprised at what it takes to be a firefighter.

"You do need to be reasonably fit, but most people who train regularly can meet the standard." The traditional work of a firefighter has changed in recent years to working with members of the public, raising awareness of the risks of fire.

Mr Dunnet added: "Above all, a good firefighter needs to be dependable, enjoy working as part of a team and be committed to making Kent a safer place to live and work. Joining is only a start, because what's really on offer is the opportunity for a whole career with a number of different jobs, right up to Chief Fire Officer."

For details, visit www.kent.fire-uk.org, or phone 0800 3582121. Applications must be in by Sunday, March 31.
