MIKE LAZENBY: "It would be such a good thing for this county"

A BUILDING society chief is the latest boss to support the controversial proposal for an airport on Cliffe marshes, saying it would do wonders for house prices in the county.

Mike Lazenby, chief executive of the Kent Reliance, based in Chatham, says an airport at Cliffe would be "a really good thing".

He commented: "That may upset a lot of people but it would bring 50,000 jobs, have a huge impact on the economy and a huge impact on house prices. I think anyone who says that an airport at Cliffe isn't a good thing is bereft of any financial or business expertise."

Colin Mason, who runs the Engineering Industries Association and is a former general manager of Medway Enterprise Agency, recently angered protestors by saying an airport would be great for the economy and great for generations of young people looking for jobs.
