Islanders to be marooned

THE Isle of Sheppey will be cut off from the mainland of Kent twice this month and again in October.

Maintenance of the road and railway will close Kingsferry Bridge to all traffic on Tuesday, September 17, from midnight to 4am, and Wednesday, September 18, from midnight to 4.30am.

For four hours before the bridge closes and about an hour and a half afterwards, traffic will be restricted to one lane. During the closure, the A249 will be closed from the Kingsferry roundabout at the junction with Old Ferry Road to Cowstead Corner roundabout.

As Railtrack will be working on the section of the bridge that can be raised, the Highways Agency will return in October to resurface that part of the road. This will mean another closure.

During work on the A249 Sittingbourne-bound, between Bobbing and Stockbury, from Sunday, September 15 to Wednesday, September 18, diversions will be set up.
