Youngsters will have the chance to make new friends, learn key life skills and have fun at the Youth Integration and Community Resilience Project in Maidstone on Saturday April 12.
Held between 1pm and 5pm at Triumph of Grace Maidstone Christian Community Centre, 197 Sutton Road, ME15 9BJ, the event will feature a series of workshops delivered by professionals, community bonding activities, life skills and career guidance.
The Mayor of Maidstone, Councillor John Perry, will be in attendance to open the event.
The program aims to teach young people aged 12 to 24 how to build confidence and leadership skills, develop resilience and mental strength, gain a sense of belonging and purpose, and access valuable life and career guidance.
Other areas covered include raising awareness of the risk of gang involvement, substance abuse and violence, personal and spiritual growth, and empowerment on financial literacy.
Along with the workshops, there will be games and lots of fun activities organised for the event. There will also be free food and drink available, as well as a barbecue and an Easter egg hunt. Fun skills such as baking and knitting will be taught. The youth will also have the opportunity to explore the use of TGM Gospel Radio. In addition, there will be a space available for pastoral care.
This event will bring together professionals from various disciplines to handle workshops and provide mentorship to the youth. Experts in the academic, financial and health sectors will participate in the event. There will also be guest speakers to teach the youth transferable and interpersonal skills.
Local members of Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service will also be attending to lead some activities.
The youth, while participating in each activity, will be led to discover their potential and this will help them to develop important skills. Essential life skills such as; financial literacy, problem solving, time management, critical thinking, stress management, emotional intelligence, self-care, home management, communication and interpersonal skills can be developed at quite early ages.
