Spires Academy will be opening its doors to prospective new pupils with open tours for Year 5 and 6 students on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer term.
The secondary co-educational school in Sturry, Canterbury takes a unique approach to education, enabling pupils to explore their passions, develop new skills and achieve their full potential through expert coaching and tailored pathways.
Its Elite Academies Programme develops gifted and talented students, providing specialist coaching and stretching and challenging pupils in their area of expertise, whether that’s academic, sporting or artistic. It also provides opportunities for pupils to participate in activities that motive and raise their aspirations, as well as developing a deeper knowledge of their identified area of expertise and to use it to further their achievements.
The school’s curriculum is based on four key principles: inclusive, focused, sequenced and coherent. That ensures every child is supported to access a full curriculum and to gain powerful knowledge through its knowledge organisers. Its five-year plans are also carefully mapped out using spaced learning, while it uses big ideas to link new content to previous learning.
Anna Burden, principal at Spires Academy, said: “At Spires Academy we believe our core purpose is to work together to create an extraordinary school because we believe that Spires Academy makes a difference to the life chances of our students and can nurture confident young people who will play an active and constructive part in the community they live. We are proud of our inclusive approach and strive to ensure that learning is enjoyable and seen as a lifelong process.”
The school offers a range of subjects, including maths, English, science and technology, humanities, religious education and modern foreign languages, creative and vocational subjects, physical education and PSHE.
It also boasts modern facilities, including science laboratories, a performance area and a design and technology classroom, as well as a large sports hall, dance studio and music practice rooms.
The school’s teaching staff deliver the highest quality of education, providing students with detailed feedback on their work and performance to enable them to excel in an inclusive environment.
Its pastoral team also works closely with pupils to support them and to ensure that they are getting the most from their education and time at school.
Additionally, the school runs a host of interesting and engaging extra-curricular clubs, which students are encouraged to participate in, including gymnastics, golf, equestrian, football, music and drama.
