The ultrasound machines are state-of-the-art and use the latest technology combined with a wealth of clinical knowledge and experience from expert consultants to provide families with accurate and detailed information about their pregnancy.

The range of ultrasound scans and consultations begins from early on in the pregnancy to confirm it is healthy and viable through to the end at term, to assess the baby’s health and well-being of the pregnancy.

The Pregnancy Clinic offers specialist scans to assess a baby’s anatomy and development at all three trimesters, fetal heart scans, cervical scans for premature birth and Doppler scans to check the baby’s well-being.

The Pregnancy Clinic is founded and led by Professor Ranjit Akolekar, a sub-specialist in fetal-maternal medicine and one of the leading international experts in the field. Professor Akolekar is a consultant obstetrician with a sub-specialisation in fetal medicine, which allows him to undertake detailed ultrasound assessments for the baby and ensure that this information supports safe management of the pregnancy.

He is the clinical lead for fetal medicine at Medway Fetal and Maternal Medicine Centre, a tertiary centre for high-risk pregnancies for Kent and Medway, which he set up and has been at for almost 20 years.

Professor Akolekar is an academic affiliated to the Institute of Medical Sciences at Canterbury Christ Church University. He is passionate about clinical research and his research interests include prevention of pregnancy complications, in particular pregnancy loss.
