A new beer now on sale across the UK as part of Wetherspoon’s Spring Beer Festival has been carefully created in Kent.
The refreshing golden pale ale has been brewed by Nicola Allen - one of Shepherd Neame’s production team based at its Faversham headquarters.
Called In the Nic of Time, the beer joins 29 others from as afield as Australia, the USA and New Zealand for the festival that runs until March 16 in all Wetherspoon pubs.
Nicola, who has worked for Sheps for 20 years across engineering, packaging and brewing, used three varieties of hops for the ale, Fuggles, Cascade and Target.
“I am delighted to be part of the festival, celebrating both real ale, and the many women now working within the brewing sector,” said Nicola, who lives in Faversham with her husband and two children.
“In the Nic of Time is a golden ale, giving a floral aroma, zesty citrus notes, with a refreshing bitterness, and a subtle malt flavour. I hope everyone enjoys it!”
Wetherspoon's marketing manager Jen Swindells said: “The festival is a great celebration of real ale.
“It will allow us to showcase a selection of superb value-for-money beers, including those from brewers as far afield as Canada and New Zealand, as well as those closer to home. The festival features five female international brewers, with many of the beers having been brewed, or the brewing assisted, by female brewers. Indeed, in the past, most beer was brewed by women – known as ‘brewsters’.”
Most Wetherspoon pubs are selling pints of the festival beers at £1.99, however, prices do differ between outlets. Tasting notes on all beers are also available.
