National Working Dog Day: Skinner's dog food celebrates working hounds

Do you own a working dog? Did you know this week the working hounds are being celebrated with their very first National Working Dog Day just in time for hunting season.

Skinner’s, a dog food brand for working dogs, has extended its love for the K-9s with a special day taking place on Thursday, August 12 to tie in with the start of the grouse-shooting season.

The term working dogs is a breed group classification used by The Kennel Club.

It includes breeds who traditionally served the purpose of fulfilling roles, from military and police dogs to search-and-rescue dogs.

There are also a number of other dogs that ‘work’ who do not fall under this category and have roles in areas such as herding and gun sports, that are still defined as working dogs.

Skinner's believe working dogs are so much more than sheepdogs and sniffer dogs and are integral in our society in a number of other ways.

Such as helping the impaired to most recently playing a huge part in the health and safety of our futures by being able to detect Covid, amongst other diseases.

Skinner’s have recognised that these dogs need to be celebrated, and encourage everybody to celebrate the UK’s hard working dog population on Thursday.
