The lifeboat was launched in an estimated 15 minutes with a volunteer crew of seven people.

The Shannon-class boat towed the yacht to the Dover Marina due to the yacht's lack of power.

When the yacht began to take on water south west of Hythe, another RNLI crewman was placed onboard to assess the damage.

The yacht was given the all clear after it was found that its pumps could cope with the water intake.

Once the yacht reached the marina, her two crew were left to arrange repairs for their vessel and the lifeboat returned to Dungeness.

Coxswain, Stuart Adams, said: "The crew on the yacht did the right thing today in hailing the coastguard for assistance.

"They were not far from shore and with no power, they could have found themselves running aground.

"It shows the importance of having at least one means of communication when at sea, so that you can call for help if the unexpected happens."
