Officers in the Sarah Everard murder investigation are searching an abandoned builders' yard and former St John's Ambulance base.

Met teams carrying tools, including what looked like shovels, were seen arriving in a van and disappearing down an alleyway beside a B&B in the centre of Dover at around 3.30pm.

The property on Folkestone Road is beside a piece of vacant and overgrown land earmarked for development.

The B&B's garden borders North Military Road where officers have now sealed off land next to the former St John's Ambulance site, which is near to the former BCB Garage where suspect Wayne Couzens worked for 20 years.

The Met previously spent several days at the crumbling garage in Western Heights, which is now owned by the council.

Yesterday search teams were seen dredging drains and divers continued to scour the River Stour in Sandwich after arriving in the area on Sunday.

But today while searches elsewhere in the historic town continued focus shifted to a rail-side builders' yard off Woodensborough Road, which contains a cement mixer, skip and lorry container in amongst other discarded machinery.

The area being searched is known as The Butts, which includes a cricket club, play area and skate park with a connecting footpath. It's adjacent to both the Rope Walk and the Co-op car park which have been cordoned off in previous days.

Teams are scouring the town in a hunt for evidence including Ms Everard's phone.

The 33-year-old marketing executive vanished while walking home on March 3. Her body was found in woodland near Great Chart last Wednesday.

Today officers kept a presence at that site, which is next to the run-down Great Chart Golf and Leisure complex.

Yesterday Beth Robson, reporter at the scene in Sandwich, observed officers using a machine to dredge drains and scouring through the sludge once it was brought up.

This was at the Guildhall car park in Cattle Market.

She added: "They are lifting drain covers, pulling up everything inside and combing it finely to look for any clues."

Officers were particularly centred around Millwall, a pathed area surrounding a stream, and all its entrances.

Since the Met arrived in Sandwich on Sunday they have rooted through clothes bins and examined undergrowth while dive teams from Devon and Cornwall have been searching the River Stour.

On Monday a gold necklace was recovered from the car park but there is no further information on whether the find was significant.

Today, forensics officers were seen bagging up and carrying away evidence including a pair of scissors.

The Met has said it is continuing searches across Kent but will not be providing a "running commentary" on events.

The new searches come as a second post-mortem was carried out on Ms Everard's body after a first proved "inconclusive".

Couzens was arrested at his home in Freemen's Way, Deal, last Tuesday.

The 48-year-old serving Metropolitan Police diplomatic protection officer, appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday charged with kidnap and murder. He is due to enter a plea in July and could face trial in October.
