SINGER Boy George arrived in Sandwich Technology School at the weekend to open a new high tech creative technology centre.

Dressed in a self customised Marks and Spencer suit and outlandish theatrical make up topped off with a trademark hat, the DJ, songwriter and 80s pop icon unveiled a plaque marking the event and enjoyed a showcase of student’s talent in the new drama suite.

He was treated to a preview of the school’s performance of Grease ahead of its opeing in March.

Boy George praised the “fabulous voices” of family accapella trio Laura, Hannah and Ruth Gregory, who sang Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B. “It's nice to see kids not doing Brittney Spears,” he commented.

Many of the pupils showed the performer and other guests from the community and businesses around the new classrooms for technology, design and realisation, graphics, art, music and ICT.

Seated on a gold throne made by art teacher Bob Martin, the singer then answered pupils' questions on his life and career.
