Police investigate after boat capsizes in River Stour in Sandwich

Police are investigating after a boat was found capsized in the River Stour this morning.

The vessel, which is owned by harbour master Colin Carr and used for regular seal spotting trips, came free from its moorings overnight.

It was discovered on its side in the water before 7am but had fully submerged by lunchtime.

Officers attended the scene and the Environment Agency was called as a precaution following concerns of fuel leakage.

A spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of criminal damage after a boat became free from its moorings on the River Stour at Sandwich some time between 5pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday.

"Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area is asked to phone Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/53780/18.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
