A legendary landlady has come out of retirement and gone back to her roots to open an antiques shop.
Annie Blown left The Bowl in Hastingleigh, near Ashford, after 20 years last summer and moved to Sandwich to retire.
But six months into her break, she felt the itch for a new venture.
The 67-year-old said: “Probably after six months of leaving the pub, I wanted to do something else.
“Retirement wasn’t for me.”
Called King Street Emporium, the shop is opposite The Old Pharmacy bar in the town and opened last Sunday.
It is not the first time Mrs Blown has sold antiques.
She and her late husband, Ron, ran Ron’s Emporium in Church Lane, Deal, for two decades before leaving to open the pub in 2004.
It sold antiques, bric-a-brac and second-hand furniture - much of which moved with them to decorate The Bowl.
Mrs Blown said: “It’s nice to come back after so many years.
“I like talking to everyone.
“I’m selling a bit of everything.
“A lot of stuff we had with Ron. I went out to buy things as well.
“There are bits and pieces from everywhere. It’s a bit of a hobby for me.”
Mrs Blown, along with her daughter, left The Bowl in June last year.
It was taken over and continues to be run by another villager, Hugo Willett, who at 18 was thought to be the UK’s youngest landlord.
He’s celebrating his first year behind the bar with an event on June 21.
Mrs Blown added: “I really miss all the customers.
“I just loved chatting to them.”
King Street Emporium is open Thursday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
