Police investigating theft and fire of car in Honfleur Road, Sandwich.

Police are investigating the theft of a car which was set alight in Sandwich this morning.

Fire crews and police were called to the scene at Honfleur Road at 5.49am.

The owner had left the vehicle parked and secured outside his home near where it was later found.

The vehicle was a gold Volvo V40 estate and was stolen sometime between Saturday, March 29 and Sunday March 30.

It was then taken around the corner from the owner's house and set alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and foam to extinguish the fire.Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft or subsequent blaze. A white van was reported to be seen leaving the area after a loud bang however, it is not known if the van is in any way connected to the incident.
