Bess the dog at Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge receives world wide attention after adoption appeal

A pooch who has been living in a rescue shelter for 10 years could soon be given a new home, after adoption offers from all over the world poured in.

Volunteers at Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge appealed for canine lovers to come forward and take in Bess the dog for her twilight years.

Since the appeal, the Hatfield Road centre has been inundated with messages from Australia, India, The United States, Ireland, South Africa as well as Scotland and Wales.

A manager at the centre said: "We are wading through all the offers of loving homes we have received to see which ones will best fit Bess’s temperament and character.

"Hopefully we will have our lovely Bess in a new home in a matter of days, pending checks."

Speaking about the pretty pooch, shelter worker Carrie Thatcher said: "It takes her quite a while to build up a bond with someone but it’s always handy to have some treats to win her over. She is very stubborn and if she doesn’t want to do something she won’t do it, this is how she has become very clever in conning staff to give her treats.

"When Bess trusts you she is affectionate and loves to be petted but very much on her own terms, she doesn’t like to be over fussed or crowded. Bess would need a very understanding and devoted home with someone who is happy to leave her be to adjust to her new home life after so many years in kennels.

"All Bess would love is a nice soft comfy bed and short walks throughout the day, she is house trained and not destructive. She would make an interesting pet and if you have the time and patience she could become a loving addition to your new home."
