The body of man found in the river has been formally identified as the suspect in a fatal shooting.
Edward Smith, also known as Edvard Stockings, was believed to have gone into the River Thames after shooting his wife Lisa Smith in the car park of The Three Horseshoes in Main Road, Knockholt, near Sevenoaks, on Friday, February 14.
The 43-year-old’s car was found abandoned on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and he was believed to have gone into the water.
A body was recovered from the River Thames on Friday, March 7 and today the force has confirmed it is Mr Smith.
Slough resident Ms Smith, 43, was married, and a member of the travelling community.
On February 20, investigating officer DCI David Higham, confirmed Ms Smith had travelled to Kent to visit family and friends.
He said Ms Smith was in the pub when she came outside and was confronted by the offender and shot with an illegally-held handgun. Four gunshots were fired with two being fatal.
On March 5, area coroner Roger Hatch opened an inquest into the Ms Smith’s death at Oakwood House, in Maidstone.
The court heard how Ms Smith was born in Sheerness and her cause of death was given as 1A gunshot wound to the neck.
One tribute to Ms Smith said: "Our love and prayers are with your family, especially your boys and your beautiful granddaughter.
While on Facebook, one woman wrote: "RIP Lisa. May god give you the best bed in heaven."
A full inquest into Ms Smith’s death will be heard at Oakwood House on Wednesday, September 17.
An investigation into both deaths will now be led by the coroner.
