A man was discovered in a churchyard with multiple serious injuries following an assault.

Police cordoned off St Margaret's Church in Halstead, and a section of the cemetery, after the man was found last night at about 8.15pm.

The church and surrounding area remained taped off for much of this morning.

The man is currently in hospital, and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are investigating the attack.
