The Community Cupboard, located next to the West Kingsdown Library and Village Hall, has already been handing out food parcels and toiletries for the last five weeks. It serves the communities of Hartley, New Ash Green, Longfield and West Kingsdown.

At the same time that South East Water made its donation, Danny Baker and Owen Jones of Clancy Docwra, the water company’s contractor, arranged for a pathway to be constructed, making the building more accessible to the public.

The Rev Helen Reeves, a trustee for the Community Cupboard, said: “We are so grateful to both South East Water and Clancy Docwra.

“This time of year can bring about a lot of financial worry and this donation will help to ease the stress for many people."

Tracey Wood, a co-founder of the Community Cupboard. said: “Help is needed all throughout the year. We need more than just food for the Community Cupboard, toiletries are expensive and these a real help.

“The Community Cupboard is here for anyone that needs a helping hand, whether you need to use our printer, an extra meal, or just some company and a cup of tea.”
