Crash on M25 near Clacket Lane services

A multi-vehicle crash brought traffic to a halt on the M25 for two hours, creating up to eight miles of queues.

It came after two lorries and a car collided, near junction 5 (Sevenoaks) close to the Clacket Lane services heading towards Surrey.

The crash happened just before 3pm and is understood the car overturned and left the carriageway.

Highways officials said there were two separate collisions within close proximity to one another and emergency services had to close the road while they dealt with the aftermath.

Queues of traffic caused by the crash

Traffic was eventually allowed past at 5.30pm when one lane reopened. Another lane was opened at around 6.25pm, before the carriageway fully reopened just before 7pm.

But congestion was backing up to junction 4 (Orpington), and also affected the M26 westbound as well as as well as surrounding routes through Chipstead, Westerham and Godstone.

Some motorists said they were stuck in queues for an hour.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are on the scene and recovery of the vehicles is being arranged."
