After landing in a ditch he made his way home.

But police located him there and carried out a breath test, which resulted in him being taken into custody for failing it.

The force in Sevenoaks tweeted about the incident at 3am.

The tweet reads: "After this #crash, the driver decided not to hang around and hastily made his way home.

"Probably linked to the fact that he failed the breath test once he was located.

"He's now starting #2020NewYear in custody for drink driving."

Officers also attached an image of the car, an Astra, now covered in police tape.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 12.30am on Wednesday January 1 to a report that a car had left the carriageway on Bidborough Ridge, Bidborough.

"Officers attended the scene where the driver had left prior to their arrival.

" Following enquiries, a man in his 50s from the Tunbridge Wells area was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

"He has been released pending further investigation."
