Field fire in Kemsing caused by suspected combine harvester fault

A fire which swept through 15 acres of farmland is thought to have been caused by a fault with a combine harvester.

Six engines and crews were called to Exedown Road, in Kemsing near Sevenoaks, at 3.33pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters battled the blaze for around five hours, until it was reported to be out at 8.15pm.

No casualties were reported.

Neighbour Kieran Murphy described the scene after capturing it on video.

He said: "The fire is spreading rapidly through the fields between Wrotham and West Kingsdown.

"A number of firefighters were there tackling the blaze, which looks to be spreading across the entire field and leading on to the next one. It is spreading really quickly."

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said blaze was contained to one field of cut corn.
