Redroute bus owner offers reward after attack on 408 bus to West Kingsdown

A bus company owner is offering a £1,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the yob who throw a brick through a bus window in Sevenoaks.

Jason Mee, who runs Redroute Bus company, said: "This was a very serious incident and people could have been badly hurt.

"I'm fed up with people who carrying out these mindless acts and think they can get away with it."

Mr Mee temporarily suspended his 408 service from the Knowle Academy School to West Kingsdown after the attack, although it has now been resumed.

He said: "Naturally my driver was nervous about continuing to travel the route. No-one should have to worry whether they are about to have a brick thrown at them."

The incident happened in the dark at around 4.15pm on Friday, December 6, as the bus passed some bushes near the Portabello Inn stop in London Road.

The service, which is subsidised by KCC, takes children home from school, but can also be used by members of the public.

The brick smashed a window, but fortunately none of the passengers was harmed.

Mr Mee said: "The driver did not see who threw it, but later he circled around the area and spotted a group of boys aged about 15 or 16 who he thought looked suspicious."

The police were informed and have stepped up patrols in the area.

Although this was the first time a bus on this route had been attacked, Mr Mee said other buses had been previously targeted in Gravesend.

He said: "Obviously the police can't be everywhere, but hopefully my reward might encourage someone to turn in the culprits."

Police said if anyone saw anything suspicious they should dial 101, or call 999 if a crime was in progress.
