Tories win Sevenoaks by-election

Amid the fluster of the Kent County Council and other election results yesterday, it would be easy to overlook the by-election held in the Brasted, Chevening and Sundridge ward for a seat on Sevenoaks District Council.

Conservative candidate Keith Bonin swept to victory with a 347-majority over his nearest rival, Sandra Robinson.

The result was:

Keith Patrick Bonin (Con) 1,051 votes

Sandra Robinson (Lib Dem) 704 votes

Neil Proudfoot (Lab) 182 votes

Mr Bonin adds to the Conservatives' already huge majority on the council. The Tories now hold 46 seats, Independents four, Lib Dems three and Labour one.

The turnout was 39.2%
