Drivers faced long queues after a "police incident" closed the M25 in both directions.
The motorway was shut between junctions 5 for the M26 and junction 6 for Godstone.
Traffic was released shortly afterwards but long delays remained for a time approaching the section.
Police have been contacted for more information.
