Flooding at Orpington station causing rush hour disruption to Dover, Ramsgate and Sevenoaks services

Heavy rain has flooded a station, causing problems for Kent commuters this morning.

Disruption is now expected to last until 9am after "extreme flooding" at Orpington station overnight.

Services to and from Ramsgate and Dover Priory as well as to and from Hastings have all been affected.

Trains have been diverted between Sevenoaks and Chislehurst to avoid the Orpington area.

The diversion adds around 15 minutes to journey times.

A Southeastern spokesman said: "Heavy rain earlier today has flooded the railway at Orpington and as a result, fewer trains are able to run on some lines.

"The water in some areas on the track was several inches deep and this has caused damage to signalling equipment in the area."

Five hours ago National Rail tweeted to say disruption had cleared.

However problems on the rail are now expected to end at around 9am.

Passengers are advised to check their journey online and allow extra time to reach their destination.
